Sos pads will scratch the hell out of the plating, as will course steel wool.and using the wrong scotch brite pad will do the same especially if any real pressure is used The wheel in the photo has about 2 hours work into it with sos pads and a hand polishing with wenol Have any of you guys come up with a trick way of making these old dogs look good Maybe sand blasting lightly and a coat of variprime to do a cool paint job or perhaps some powdercoating

I use sos soap pads and water on rougher pieces, some light scratching doesnt really bother me tho, on a piece thats gonna be a little rough reguardless, it will at least look better I have also been known to spot in a little silver/chrome paint in a small area where chrome is missing,then kind of feather back into the edges of the spot,with the sos pad taking the overpray off the actual. I worked at a chrome shop for a couple years and i've seen so many good chrome pieces go to shit from sos or plain steel wool
